Going Greener....

Inspired to change…

2020 is close, and intention setting is high on my priority list! One of my personal goals is to use and purchase less plastic. As a consumer, it is easy to fall into the traps of convince and excess. I started examining my bathroom and when over what could be replaced with reusable or more recycle friendly products.

A few years back I was gifted the book, Gorgeously Green, and it blew my mind. I was crazed over all the toxic and terrible things that lay amiss in our homes. At one point, I threw out all of my husband’s hygiene products because of the chemicals used in them. As one could imagine, he was a bit shocked coming home and finding his AXE body wash replaced with peppermint castle soap. But , he went along for the green ride.

Fast forward ten years later, and I have lightened up a little. I try to be less intense, but I wonder if that a good thing? After our recent fundrasing event for Clean Ocean Action, I had a sobering thought that I could cut down on a significant amount of disposable products. Starting this journey isn’t easy, or initially cheap, so I thought it best to take one room at a time.

Beauty products and hygiene stuff was a good place to start. Turns out, a whole lot of our stuff can be reusable.

Plastic, ear-jabbing jerks they are. It turns out, there are alternatives for them. Silicon “cotton swabs,” one for each member of the family. Can be disenfectided and reused over and over again. Removing 100’s of unnecessary trash. ($9)

Cotton Balls

Okay, so my nightly toner is not something I am willing to give up, but maybe the approach can. BOOM! Bamboo, reusable “cotton pads” that can be washed and reused over and over again!

Skin Care

Sooooo I needed a new skin regimen and I wanted to keep it green, non-toxic, and free of single use plastics. Turns out I have the best skin care in my back yard! Alchemy Holistic’s is new to the hood, but not to the skin care world. Glass, recyclable, and healthy ingredients for the earth and your body. Gina recently expanded and opened a studio in town. Her facials are magical!

Now my adventures into the green, plastic-free world has not ended. I am trying to figure out a way to get rid of mouthwash, toothpaste tubes, and find a refill option for my body wash. I hope I inspired some change, and I’m hoping to gain some inspiration from all of you, by hearing your ways of being more Eco-minded!!
