Online Booking and Our App

I can’t tell you how many times a week I hear, “I just love your online booking.” I hear it almost as much as, “So, I had an issue with booking my appointment online.”

Technology is the way of the future, and in the salon world, our front desk is transitioning more and more to apps, automative, and digital communications. Our industry is rapidly changing, and not only in trends and hair styles, but the business itself is shifting and preparing for not only technological changes, but economic and environmental factors as well.

Are you familiar with what a salon suit is? No? Well, NJ, get used to it. Monmouth County will soon be home to ‘sola suits,’ which are essentially micro salons for one or two stylist to run. They are in buildings with ten to fifty other mini salons, and all are individually operated.

I’m sure you are thinking ‘What does this mean for me when booking an appointment?’ Basically, everything. Due to changes in our industry’s standard buisness model, the approach to salon functions must also change in order to maintain the culture that currently exists. But how do us ‘traditional salons’ keep momentum in the shifting tides? By keeping up with the Jones via the tech world.

Private suits are small, and require less furniture. Due to size and functionality, most suits don’t have receptionist, often don’t take walk-ins, and are only open when the stylist is there. Being that most suits are a one woman show, the need for software to manage bookings is vital. Due to the popularity of salon suits nationwide, the salon culture has shifted away form having receptions, and more and more auto booking platforms have been developed. The booking culture has changed, becoming more direct, and cutting out the middle man.

We are are trying to be ahead of these curves, and slowly introduce this new wave of innovation in our industry to our guests. Over the the next two years, the majority of salons will be heading in this direction, establishing practices like we are beginning to see, by allowing clients to book on demand via email, DM’s, text, and app based platforms.

SalonBiz app is our booking platform, and one of the best and most sophisticated. Capable of A.I. and multi tasking for our needs. Additionally, ebbing out the need for a receptionist or a physical front desk, for that matter. The app is moving towards allowing more communications directly with your stylist, and 24/7 concierge-like service.

The app is also capable of doing a bit more for you personally, like keeping records of your past services, product history, and allowing for you to see all of our social media and keep up with CHS events. You can even check out from the chair, and send us messages for us to connect with you. BONUS!! The app has allowed for us to go paperless with receipts.

We are here for any questions you might have, and would love to help you with the app!

All the best and Happy Hair,

Summer sleep Hair for the win

I am constantly being complimented on my hair. At least five times a day, people tell me how much they love my “styling.” Truth is, I do very little, and when I share this with people, I always get the same response: “I wish my hair could do that.” When I tell women I wash my hair once a week, use two products, and never use heat on my hair, I get puzzled looks. Listen, I’m a walking example of living-in, natural texture. I relying on great haircuts, especially straight razor cuts that bring out my wave even more.

Lived-in hair takes a little bit of letting go of the perfect, embracing natural texture, and being ok with a little fluff and frizz. You will have to accept that your hair won’t be the same day-to-day. If you are looking for perfection and 100% frizz free hair, stop reading now. This look wont be for you.

The proper product is what it is all about. Everyone will have a different setting product that will work for them. You may not find it on the first try, and you might initially struggle with the end result. If you stick with it and listen to your stylist’s suggestions, you will get to your goal quicker.

Lastly, and this is important, you need to understand that your wave, curl, or lack either, is what it is. You can’t expect your perfect curls to relax into beach waves, or the reverse.

Check out a little clip of me applying the new Cult & King Balm we will be carrying this week. This is the best lived-in air drying product line I have found, and I’m so excited to be carrying it soon.

Shiny Hair?!? YES - Isn’t this what we all want?

First things first; let’s start in the shower.

Shampoo & Conditioner are the foundation of all things shiny. If you are not using the right ones for your texture and hair needs, it can make it more difficult to achieve shiny, healthy hair when styling.

Some of my favorites are:

·        Minu Shampoo & Conditioner. It’s purposely named ‘minu,’ short for ‘illuminating,’ to do just that. Super high in antioxidants, it has all the good things your hair needs for shine.

When you spend $30 on take home products you will receive a Spotlight Treatment free. While supplies last.

·        Your Hair Assistant Prep Shampoo & Prep Mild Cream. They are moisturizing and nourishing, but lightweight enough for any hair texture without weighing the hair down.

·        Spotlight Circle. It provides instant shine in just ten minutes. It contains moringa oil and micronized mica powder to smooth and deeply nourish.

Now that we have a foundation, what’s next?

Before putting any styling product into your hair, you must towel dry. This helps to minimize dilution of the product.

There are SO many options for products, but here are a few that give immediate results whether you decide to air dry, diffuse or blowdry.

- Your Hair Assistant Silkening Oil Mist. It helps create shiny, frizz-free, and silky hair.

I love spraying this on, whether I’m letting my hair be curly or blowdrying. This product is meant for all hair types, too.

  • More Inside Moisturizing Relaxing Fluid. It gives you slight control over curls, but it’s great for frizz when you are blowdrying or diffusing, thus creating soft, shiny and moisturized hair. Or you can use it dry, to re-moisturize curls for extra shine**

  • Invisible Serum. This gem helps with frizz while having a really flexible hold. Creates a beautiful satiny finish and can be used wet or dry…but a little goes a long way here. **

**Application tip: put on hands as if you were putting on lotion, then distribute through hair evenly.

Nozzle-on is a must! This helps to direct the heat and make sure you follow your brush with your blowdryer to seal the cuticle and eliminate frizz, making it easier to achieve optimal shine with the products you chose. ( If you want to learn how to style your hair 1-on-1 we can schedule time as a blow dry class. Giving you a little extra hands on know how.)

Need a little something extra for that night out? A finishing product can help accomplish your beautiful look, and can be as simple as a hairspray or a wax depending on your texture.

  • More Inside Shine Wax. This golden little pot is AMAZING. Meant to be used on dry hair, it gives a beautiful glossy and sleek effect. It’s not sticky and super flexible, so you don’t have to worry about it weighing your hair down.

  •     More Inside. This is a shimmering mist. Not only does this aerosol shine-spray do its job, it smells fantastic. I promise you won’t be disappointed with the results!

Next time you are in the salon, please ask about any of the products above. We are here to help and guide you to the best products available to achieve results specifically for your hair.
